Local Government Toolkit launched - 27 June 2016
The It’s not OK campaign has launched the Local Government Toolkit to support local bodies to reduce family violence across New Zealand.
To achieve the long term goals of safe and violence free families and communities, we need more than just Police and crisis services, we need everyday families, communities and neighbourhoods, working with influential leaders such as councils and mayors throughout NZ, to make this change.
The It’s not OK campaign works alongside different communities – towns, faith groups, sports clubs, workplaces - to change the social attitudes that tolerate violence and increase people’s motivation to take action – to seek help, to give help and to influence behaviour change.
This toolkit highlights some of the successful local government led, or supported, projects that have been making a difference throughout New Zealand, as well as tips on how to work with your community to start an initiative. It also shows how local bodies can be supported by the It’s not OK team including resources and funding.
The toolkit is intended for use by mayors, chief executives, and directors of local government bodies, as well as for council staff, especially those working on safety and community development initiatives.
